We have had a very busy week in context this week. We completed an art project (photos will be uploaded next week) showing how plastic harms animals in the sea. We completed a science experiment to see if custard is a liquid or a solid. We also used Microsoft Excel to create a bar chart. In RE, we studied Judaism. We looked at the Torah and the Bar Mitzvah. In Maths, we learned about data handling using pictograms, venn diagrams and bar charts. The children have been sorting data and answering questions about the data provided. In English, we have started to look at explanation texts and identifying the key features of these texts.
In Maths we have been learning how to use the column method to subtract 2-digit numbers from 3-digit numbers. In English, we have written a second draft and a final draft of a newspaper report about how plastic in the sea is affecting the wildlife at Midway Atoll. In RE, we finished our topic 'People' where we learnt all about Jesus' family. In Context, we have used four figure grid references to to locate recycling centres in South Wales. We have also consolidated column addition by calculating total waste over a number of years. We then used the waste recycled to create a bar to to show how recycling has changed in the UK.
Welcome back Year 4. It has been an excellent first few weeks and we have worked really hard. In Maths, we have learned all about Place Value and Addition. In Context, we have started our top which is Recycling. The children have researched what we can reduce, reuse and recycle. They have also looked at data about recycling and used the rounding skills we learned in Maths to round the figures to the nearest 10 and 100. They have also looked at compass points to tell explain the direction of recycling centres from us. In English, we have started researching about Midway Atoll and prepared to write a Newspaper Report about the issues they have with plastic. In RE, we learned about Jesus' family tree.
