Dear Parent / Carer,
We are pleased to inform you that St. Joseph's RC Primary School has gained the Sun Safe Schools annual accreditation. Whilst we recognise that some sun is good for us, Sun Safety remains an important health and safety issue for schools and we are committed to reducing the risk of over exposure to UV and educating our future generations on the importance of Sun Safety, to influence behaviour for a positive Sun Safe future.
It is recommended that all sunscreen should have a minimum Sun Protection Factor (SPF) 30+, be 'broad-spectrum' to provide both UVA and UVB protection and if labelled with a UVA star rating, carry a minimum of 4 stars. We also ask that parents also ensure their child has access to a suitable sun hat that should be either broad-brimmed (bucket style) or legionnaire to shade the face, neck and ears. Baseball caps are not recommended.
Below you will find further guidance in the fact sheet, and practical advice about UV, Sun Safety, skin cancer prevention and early detection can be found at: www.skcin.org.
There is a lovely story about Sun Safety and a link to an animated version. There are also fun sheets for your child to do to learn more about sun safety.
