The Feast of Christ the King
God of all,
you sent your Son to show us how to live.
Help us to listen to the truth and follow Jesus's example in our lives.
28th November start of Advent
Week One of Advent
Father in this season of Advent we prepare our hearts for your coming. You are the vine, we are the branches. Come and tend us, prune us, clean us. Discard in us everything that does not bear fruit, Nourish in us everything that bears much fruit. As we celebrate your coming as a vulnerable baby Our hearts await your glorious return as the eternal King. Nurture in us expectant hearts, O Lord. Cultivate in us a deep longing for more of you. Until that Day when you burst through the heavens, And flood our horizons with your glorious splendour. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, throughout all ages and generations. Amen.
Week Two of Advent 4th December
Stir up our hearts, O Lord, to prepare the ways of Thine only-begotten Son, that through His coming we may be worthy to serve Thee with purified minds. Who livest and reignest, with God the Father, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen.
Week Three of Advent 11th December
God ever gentle, ever caring,
you call us home from the exile of selfishness
to the freedom of justice, the balm of healing,
and the joy of sharing.
Make us eager to join you in your holy work,
as friends of strangers and victims,
companions of those whom others shun,
and as the happiness of those whose hearts are broken.
We make our prayer through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Week Four of Advent 18thth December
Holy Father, thank you for the gift of your Son, Jesus Christ, your greatest gift of love to your people. Fill my heart with such love, opening my heart to accept your great love for me. Overflow my heart with your love, so I may pour it out into the world. Help me to love others as you’ve loved me – even those who aren’t so easy to love. For following you means loving others as you love me. Lord, thank you for your great gift of Jesus as we celebrate Christmas. May I ever walk in your love and show the world I am your disciple by the love I show to others, keeping Jesus, your Son, close in my heart. Amen.
