Peer Mediators 2026-2027

Peer Mediators play a vital role in promoting a positive, caring and inclusive environment at St Joseph’s RC Primary School. As ambassadors for our school values, they help encourage respectful communication, support positive relationships and assist their peers in resolving minor disagreements.

Throughout the year, our Peer Mediators meet regularly to discuss ways to improve their impact across the school. Following pupil-led discussions, the team decided to create a series of informative posters for classrooms, helping all children understand the role of Peer Mediators and how they can offer support. In addition, the group voted to appoint representatives who will visit classes to explain their responsibilities and answer any questions.

These initiatives will help raise awareness of the Peer Mediator programme and ensure that all pupils know that trained Peer Mediators are available during playtimes to offer support, promote inclusion and help maintain a happy and harmonious playground.

     

      

 

Action Plan (Short Summary) 

At St Joseph’s, we are proud to empower our pupils to take on leadership roles that help create a happy, inclusive and supportive school community.

Our Peer Mediators play an important role in promoting positive relationships across the school. They help younger pupils resolve minor disagreements, encourage kindness and inclusion, and act as positive role models during playtimes and lunchtimes.

For the 2026-2027 academic year, we are excited to introduce our new Playground Leaders programme. Working alongside our Peer Mediators, Playground Leaders will organise and lead a range of playground activities designed to encourage active play, teamwork and friendship.

Pupils selected for this role will receive official training to develop their leadership, communication and organisational skills. Through this training, they will gain the confidence and experience needed to lead games, support their peers and contribute positively to school life.
