SAINT DAVID’S DAY MARCH 1st 2023
Dear families of Saint Joseph’s
Saint David’s Day will take place on Wednesday 1st March 2023. We ask that all external competition entries are in school by Tuesday February 28th so certificates can be awarded to children. (Please label cooking competition and all entries with your child’s name and class please.) All children will be represented in the Eisteddfod from competitions conducted in class because of the internal competitions taking place. WE VERY MUCH HOPE AS MANY CHILDREN AS IS POSSIBLE ARE REPRESENTED IN THE EXTERNAL COMPETITIONS.
Daffodil Donations:
For those families who wish to donate a bunch of daffodils to decorate the stage this would be much appreciated. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!
Saint David’s Day Celebration
Mass 9.20 – 9.30 am – This Mass is being led by Dosbarth Gwynno. The families of these children are warmly invited to the celebration. Please sign in with Mr Shankland in the foyer before entering the hall please.
Social Media Platforms
Be aware that if families choose to record or take photographs we ask that they are NOT shared on social media sites as we do not have the consent of all families to do this and we respect choices and circumstances as a school. Thank you.
Costume for the Day
Children can wear a red ‘T’ shirt, Welsh rugby top or traditional dress for the day.

External Competitions – Open to all children
Cystadlu Un Competition One:
The children are asked to cook a Welsh traditional dish. Please ensure that the container in which the cooked item is delivered in is clearly marked with your child’s name and their class so that they can be returned to you on the afternoon of the Eisteddfod.
Cystadlu Dau / Competition Two:
To design a new flag for Wales.
Cystadlu Tri / Competition Three:
To make a 3D model of a leek, daffodil or draw and label a picture of Welsh traditional costume.
Cystadlu Pedwar / Competition Four:
Model Making of Welsh dragons.
Cystadlu Pump / Competition Five:
To design a new rugby kit for the Welsh Rugby Team / Football Team.

Helpwr Heddiw Support Guide
The four purposes of the new curriculum for Wales inform our teaching. Our learning experiences enable our pupils to be:
- ambitious, capable learners who undertake research and evaluate critically what they find and are ready to learn throughout their lives
- enterprising, creative contributors who give of their energy and skills so that other people will benefit and are ready to play a full part in life and work
- ethical, informed citizens who show their commitment to the sustainability of the planet and are ready to be citizens of Wales and the world
- healthy, confident individuals who have the skills and knowledge to manage everyday life as independently as they can and are ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.
PE and Forest Friday
PE will take place every Friday. Please make sure you bring your kit and suitable footwear.
Forest Friday is every Friday. Preferably children can leave wellies in school, or bring them to school every Friday. Children must have a suitable coat.
Expectations
Bug Club
It is expected that the children use Bug Club to support to developing their reading skills at home. Books have been assigned to each child.
Mathletics
Children also have access to Mathletics. which is an online learning resource which supports the development of mathematical skills at home. Children are expected to make use of this resource on a weekly basis and work their way through the challenges assigned to them.
