Week beginning 27/3/23
What a lovely week to end our term. We learned all about the events of Holy Week and made beautiful crosses from salt dough. We baked biscuits and Easter nests, and watched how the chocolate melted when we heated it and then become solid again when it cooled.
We wish all our families a very happy and holy Easter.
Week beginning 20-3-23
We have had so much fun this week doing so many different things! We made shape pictures and tried building tall towers from small blocks. We have been learning about opposites and playing opposite games. We had a spring clean of the toys in the outside area - an extremely soapy and wet time was had by all! When we were in the woods, we took the cameras with us to capture signs of growth. We were surprised by how many new plants we saw.
Week beginning 13-3-23
In Religion, we have been thinking about how we can show our love for others. The children had lots of ideas! We made some special cards, which we hope showed our mums how much we love them. In maths, we have been recognising and naming 2D shapes and imitating and continuing clapping patterns. We enjoyed the woods on Friday - we had a shape hunt!
Week beginning 6-3-23
We were so lucky to see and play in the snow this week. We brought the ice into the classroom to see what would happen to it. As part of our Religion topic, growing, we planted cress seeds. We watered them and put them on the window sill - let’s see what happens!
Week beginning 27/2/23
We’ve all settled back into Nursery and welcomed some new children. Mrs Wheeler and Mrs Brooks were so proud of us in our St David’s Day concert - ser Mawr! We created beautiful artwork in the style of the Welsh artist Elfyn Lewis. We used acrylic paints to make our pictures and we were very pleased with the results.
Week beginning 6-2-23
Our story focus for this week has been The 3 Little Pigs. We made piggy cakes and looked to see how the ingredients changed when we mixed and cooked them.
We acted out the story in the woods
Week beginning 30-1-23
Goldilocks and the three bears has been our theme for this week. We have listened to, and retold the story. On Tuesday we made porridge and added different ingredients to see if it improved the flavour. We mixed it with ketchup, then we tried chocolate, jam, marmite and honey. We voted for our favourite flavour. Some of us liked them all! In the water, we used bowls of different sizes when pouring and filling and used comparative vocabulary. We put porridge in the big tuff tray and made lots of marks and designs. In the woods, we made fat balls for the birds - it was very messy!
Week Beginning 23/1/23
This week we heard the story of the Gingerbread Man 2. This is where the fox is sorry for eating the gingerbread man and becomes a baker, making lots of little gingerbread men. We wondered what would have happened to the gingerbread man if he had tried to cross the river by himself, so we put a gingerbread man in some water. After a while he became a soggy mess! We then tested different materials to see which one would have made the best boat for the gingerbread man. In the woods we went on a treasure hunt to find the numbered gingerbread men and matched them to our counting stick, ordering them from 0 - 10.
Week beginning 16-1-23
This week our work focused on the story of The Gingerbread Man. We read and retold the story, we sequenced pictures and could say which picture came first and which came last, we made gingerbread men and ordered gingerbread men according to height.
Week beginning 9/1/23
Happy new year and welcome back to everybody. We have had some new children start this term and they are all settling in well. We have been very adventurous in the woods, climbing, sliding and balancing. Our Gweddiwn (worship) this week focused on gifts and love.
Next week, we will begin our topic of Tell me a Story, where we will focus on traditional tales.
Week beginning 19/12/22
Congratulations to all the children in Nursery for their hard work in preparing for, and performing such a fantastic concert. The children retold the story of the Nativity in song and they were spectacular!
We wish you a very Happy Christmas and look forward to seeing you all in the new year.
Week beginning 12-12-22
The ice and frost didn't stop us having fun in the woods. We found some water that had turned to ice and "crunched" around in all the icy leaves.
We have been thinking about birthdays and we tried to remember what we did to celebrate our birthdays. We know that we are preparing for a very special birthday on Christmas Day - the birthday of Jesus! We have been having pretend birthday celebrations and blowing out the candles on the cake.
On Thursday we did some cooking and made some delicious mince pies!
Week beginning 28-11-22
Our class worship this week focused on Advent. We learned about the Advent wreath and why the colour purple is important. We thought of ways in which we can prepare ourselves for Christmas, the birthday of Jesus.
We have been mark making in the sand, choosing our favourite reading books and having adventures in the woods.
Week beginning 21-11-22
We have been playing with our new "small world" toys - a garage and a fire station. We have made up lots of stories - we have fantastic imaginations! We know that if there is a fire and we need a fire engine we must phone 999.
It was very muddy in the woods this week, but it didn't stop us having fun. Afternoon Nursery collected green foliage to make the school Advent Wreath ready for Advent next week.
Week beginning 14th November 2022
We have had an interesting week this week. We started making Christmas decorations and we really enjoy arts and crafts. We have been working on the number 3. We have been counting all different things to do with the number and we have been practising writing the number 3. On Thursday we had PE with Miss Westgarth and we have been doing gymnastics. We have learnt lots of different shapes that we can make with our body such as a tuck, a pike and a straddle. In Welsh we have been learning about the weather and we have been singing the song “Sut mae’r tywydd heddiw?” We painted pictures of the different weather and we read the book Y Tywydd.
It is World Nursery Rhyme week so we have been singing lots of nursery rhymes.
Week beginning 7/11/22
It was lovely to see everybody after the half term break. We experimented with paint, sticks and glitter to create firework pictures and we have been using our fingers to tear paper to make mosaics. On Friday, the theme of our class worship was “remembrance” and we said special prayers remembering those that have died. In the woods we hunted to see who could find the longest stick, and we found lots of wood lice hiding under stones.
Our first half term was very busy. The children have settled in well and are beginning to make new friends. They are becoming familiar with the classroom setting and are making choices about the activities they want to engage with. We have enjoyed cooking, creative activities, songs and rhymes, maths songs and games and exploring the outdoor environment.
Please find below some photographs of our first half term in Nursery.
