Update on Local Lockdown

Following the Ministerial announcement and statement by the Leader of the Council earlier today, I want to update you on the detail of the local lockdown that will be brought in to control the virus in Cardiff, and the evidence that led to this decision being taken today.

As the Minister has outlined, from 6pm, Sunday, residents and visitors in Cardiff must adhere to the following additional restrictions:

  • People will not be allowed to enter or leave the Cardiff County Council boundary area without a reasonable excuse;
  • People will no longer be able to form, or be in, an extended household (sometimes called a “bubble”). This means you are not allowed to meeting indoors with anyone who is not part of your household (people you live with), unless you have a good reason, such as providing care to a vulnerable person;
  • People must work from home wherever possible.

However, school will continue on Monday as normal.

There are no immediate changes to the operations of schools. Travel to school for staff and pupils is considered a reasonable justification for travel. Those living outside Cardiff, both pupils and staff, are still able to attend school. School transport will continue as normal.

Stay safe and take care,

Alex Riordan
