The Oratory Junior Choir at St Alban’s Church is opening its doors to new members! Girls and boys aged between 6 and 13 who have a keenness for singing are invited to get in touch and find out more about what it is to be a chorister. Current members of the choir come from all over Cardiff, and equal opportunity to join the choir is given to both girls and boys.
The choir rehearse most Saturday mornings at 10 am in term time and sing at services each Sunday morning at 10 am (rehearsal 9:30 am) as well as at Christmas, Easter and other special occasions.
During a chorister’s time in the choir he or she will be trained to a professional standard, learning valuable skills that will set them up for the rest of their life in whatever field they choose. These skills include a sense of shared purpose with peers and seniors, self-discipline, and an ability to organise their time, as well as all the musical skills they will develop. Choristers are offered a FREE musical education by the church’s dedicated professional Music Team. This training includes singing lessons with a professional teacher, paid for by the church, theory and musicianship lessons in small groups to help each chorister progress. Every adult involved with the choir is subject to an enhanced DBS check, and I am further trained in Safeguarding and Child Protection.
We are holding a free Open Rehearsal on the morning of the 18th of January, to which your child(ren) is warmly invited. This is an opportunity to try out singing in a choir, meet some regular members and the Music Team with no obligation.
We also welcome new members at all times, so if your child is unable to attend the Open Rehearsal but is interested in joining, please don’t hesitate to email me on the address given below.
