Places for Secondary Schools - Current Y6

There are a number of common questions asked during offer time. Although it’s impossible to have a response for every query, below is some basic information which should help you give guidance.  Remember places will become available to be reallocated in the next round as places are returned.

Accepting places:

  • Parents should accept the place they have been offered even if it is not their higher preference to ensure they secure a school place.  Parents can accept places by clicking on the link supplied to them via email or on the website SchoolsAdmissions@cardiff.gov.uk .
  • Deadline to accept places is 16th March 2020.
  • Accepting a school lower down their list of preferences does not make any difference to their position on the waiting list for their preferred school.  Failing to accept a place though could result in them losing that place.

Waiting Lists

  • Children will remain on the waiting list for higher preferences until 18th December  2020, or until a place becomes available and offered.
  • The waiting list positions will be available from 1st May, 2020.
  • Currently some pupils have 2 school offers as not all Cardiff schools are part of the coordinated schools admissions – this means some additional places will become available.

Refusing places:

If the parent does not want to accept the place they need to refuse it, the deadline is 16th March, 2020.

Appeals

Parents have the right to Appeal and they have until 23rd March, 2020 to submit their appeal.

They need to visit Cardiff Council, Website www.cardiff.gov.uk and search for School Appeals.

Corpus Christi, St. Teilos, Whitchurch, Mary Immaculate, Bishop of Llandaff and St Iltyds High Schools all manage their own appeals. Parents should direct their appeal request to the school concerned and not through schools admissions as admissions are unable to help.

Parents with No Offer or Yet to Apply.

The deadline for the second round of applications will close on March 16th, 2020. The Offers will be issued in early May 2020.

If  they have no offer – we strongly recommend they reapply for an alternative school. They can do this by going on line and filling out the late application form with additional preferences and submit to SecondarySchoolsAdmissions@cardiff.gov.uk . They should do this by March 16th to ensure consideration in the Second Round.
