Dear Parents/Carers

Next September, as the new Curriculum for Wales becomes mandatory, at St Joseph’s we are putting new strategies in place to ensure our children have the best learning experiences to reach their full potential.

As the new curriculum and progression steps will replace the old Key Stage 2 and Foundation Phase, we will be starting the gradual transition to teach a spiral curriculum rather than linear with children developing skills, knowledge and experiences pertinent to their stage of development.

Nursery and Reception children will now be working mainly within progression step 1. Children within the old year groups 1, 2and 3 will now be working mainly within progression step 2. Children in the old year groups 4, 5 and 6 will now work mainly within progression step 3.  

To ensure your child has the best learning experience we have merged some classes. All classes will still be differentiated to ensure each child is challenged and reaches their full potential and all learning will be geared towards their stage of development.
