St Joseph's R.C. Primary School

Week beginning 02.02.26

In Religion, we revisited the story of The Feeding of the 5,000. We enjoyed a story time together using visuals to help deepen the children’s understanding. In their RE books, the children drew the two fish and five loaves of bread, and some also included Jesus, the little boy and members of the crowd.

In Maths, we have been recapping our learning about capacity. The children explored and used the language full, half full, empty, nearly full and nearly empty.

In Phonics, our sound of the week is ‘ur’ (as in black cat, fur). We have played lots of phonics games and practised our reading, blending, writing and tricky words.

In Welsh, we have been learning to answer the question “Beth wyt ti’n hoffi?” (What do you like?). The children have learned vocabulary for activities such as dancing, ice cream, school, football, chocolate and playtime. We also recapped how to answer “Faint oed wyt ti?” (How old are you?).

In Context, the children have been creating boats in provision using junk modelling and the correct tools for the job. We tested our boats in the water tray to see whether they would float or sink.

In Literacy, our book of the week is Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? We sang the story song, ordered the story using animal picture cards, acted it out by pretending to be the animals, and created beautiful artwork inspired by the characters.
