St Joseph's R.C. Primary School

Week beginning 12.01.26

This week in Religion we went on a hunt around the school and playground following the stars. We pretended to be the Wise Men following the Bethlehem star to find Jesus. On our hunt, we found the three presents of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh along the way.

We also began learning about the Glory Be prayer. The children had a prayer to decorate for their RE books.

In maths, we have linked our learning to our story of the week which is Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We have been looking at bowls of porridge and having class discussions about the differences between them. On Monday, the bowls were different sizes. On Wednesday, the bowls were empty, half full and full. On Friday, we looked at how much the different bowls weighed and made predictions.

During maths provision, children cut out numbers 1 to 20 and stuck them in the correct order. They also paired the bowls of porridge, beds and chairs to the correct characters in the story of Goldilocks and the three bears.

Our homework for last weekend was to apply our new knowledge and look out for 3D shapes in our home environment. We looked through the photos sent in by parents and recapped our 3D shapes together.

In literacy and phonics, our new sound was Tricky oo. We looked at different words that include tricky oo and how they vary from Cool Blue’s oo.

In Literacy, we have been reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears as our story of the week and introducing colourful semantics. We made Porridge on Tuesday for the children to try.

Our Welsh phrase of the week was ‘Pwy wyt it?’. Dewi Dragon helped us learn this new Welsh phrase and we practiced answering the question all together. This will be part of our morning routine, with the Helpwr Heddiw’s, to practice our new vocabulary.

Our digital skill of the week was using Beebots and taking pictures of our work for Seesaw. Miss Wood modelled how to do these skills on the iPad and worked with small groups to practice. Children could practice these skills using the iPads during provision.

On Miss Wood’s Wood Wednesday, the children had the freedom to play and explore. There was a lot of worm finding and tree climbing.

In Context we used roleplay to act out if we had a power cut in school. We discussed what we would do if we had a power cut. We read ‘When Charlie Mcbuttons lost power’ and linked this to our roleplay. We used clay in our provision as this linked to the story and took pictures on the iPad of the areas in the classroom that we like and disliked.
