St Joseph's R.C. Primary School
Week beginning 08.12.25
It has been another fabulous week here!
This week we consolidated all of our Nativity knowledge and read the Nativity story once again, filling in all of the bits Miss Horner left out. We know all about Mary and Joseph, how they went to Bethlehem on a donkey, knocked on doors, slept in a stable, etc. We also know about those who came to visit Jesus; the wise men and the shepherds. We have been working so hard to practise for our show next week, and we are so excited to share it with all of you. We have also LOVED dressing up and role playing the first Christmas story.
This week's storybook theme was "The Polar Express." We discovered our universal love for train sets, building winding train tracks and villages with our friends. We loved making tunnels and building tracks that circled the whole classroom together. We practised our numeracy in our maths Tuff Tray, driving Numicon trains into their correct numbered garage. We also strengthened our fine motor skills, drawing different lines in salt with a paintbrush. We also played games of train tag and "follow the leader."
To support our literacy, we enjoyed a matching activity where we needed to find the correct sound carriage on the train to carry the object (an astronaut in the "a" carriage). In maths, we played a great game that got us up on our feet! We were rolling giant dice, counting our score and putting that many baubles on our Christmas trees: the first to fill their tree was the winner!
We have continued making some lovely Christmas crafts- but we are trying to keep them a surprise. This week we had a go at making lovely blustery winter ‘lino prints’ using tin foil- we can’t wait to show them to you!
See you all on Monday for the big production!
