St Joseph's R.C. Primary School

Week beginning 20.10.25

This week in Nursery, we focused on prayer. We learned about how we are speaking to God when we pray, and learning to pray in our own ways. We practised making our own prayers again in our lovely outdoor area, remembering to thank God for all things big and small. We also read a lovely story about a monkey that can do BIG things even though he is little, just like us!

This week's storybook focus was "Room on the Broom!" Leading up to the Autumn disco, Miss Horner and Mrs. Bowen were in the mood for pumpkins, bugs and spiders! Our water tray was transformed into a gooey, gelly mess full of bugs for us to explore, and we practised matching numbers to their value with our spiderweb tuff tray! We made some lovely stained glass pumpkins for our windows and even explored real pumpkins with our senses: how they feel, smell and look! We talked about how each one of the seeds could become its own pumpkin one day. To finish this half-term off, we made some chocolate magic wands, just like the one in our story out of breadsticks and chocolate.

In maths, we cooked up a magical brew using the right number of ingredients. Miss Horner asked us to put a specific number of spiders, frogs eyeballs, leaves and gold pieces to help us to recognise the value of numbers, not just their names. We then had a good investigation of our potion station and got messy (sorry mums and dads).

Our sound of the week this week was the letter "P" to make the "p-" sound. We learned a great song about 'puff[ing] out the candles on the pink pig cake' to help us remember. We also did a great sorting activity to see how many of our sounds we can remember so far.

This half-term in PE we have learned so many things. We have practised our listening skills to follow instructions, built our spatial and bodily awareness and jumped from a height (not too high- don't worry!). We have also worked on our balancing skills, practised a bit of yoga, and we love to dance.

We are so clever! Miss Horner and Mrs. Bowen are so proud of how much we have already achieved! We can't wait to see what the next half-term brings.
