St Joseph's R.C. Primary School
Week beginning 29/09/25
It’s been another exciting week of learning in Reception!
In RE, we’ve been exploring the story of Creation. The children been learning about what happened on each of the seven days and have created beautiful artwork to represent each part of the story.
In Maths, we’ve been busy counting up to 20 and exploring patterns. We’ve been identifying, creating, and continuing patterns using colours, numbers, and movements with our bodies.
In Phonics, we’ve focused on the sounds m, d, and g. The children have been practising saying, hearing, and writing these sounds through lots of enhanced provision around the classroom.
In Literacy, we’ve been learning to recognise and order the letters in our names. After unscrambling the mixed-up letters, we practised writing our names.
For Context, we started reading Have you filled a Bucket today?. We've been talking about ways we can be kind and “fill each other’s buckets,” and recognising behaviours that might “dip” or “empty” someone’s bucket.
On Miss Wood’s Wood Wednesday, we had a special task. Someone had sneaked into our classroom during lunchtime and scattered our number logs all through the woods! The children turned into detectives, hunting down the missing numbers and helping to put them back in order from 1 to 20. We worked together to spot which numbers were still missing and continued searching until they were all found.
After we found all oir numbers, the children made beautiful leaf kebabs.
