St Joseph's R.C. Primary School
Week beginning 22/09/25
This week in Dosbarth Dewi Sant has been busy and exciting, filled with learning and creativity.
In Religion, we explored the first two days of the Creation Story and created beautiful artwork for our RE books. We also attended our Welcome Mass, where the children sat and listened wonderfully to the Priest.
In Phonics, we met all of our Monster Phonics characters and learnt the soundsi and n. The children have been practising their letter formation and developing their letter and sound recognition through our continuous provision.
In Maths, we have been counting up to 20 and joining in with finger rhymes, which have been supporting both our number skills and fine motor skills.
The children have also been busy in the block area, working together to build bridges for cars, roads for animals, and a house for Teddy.
On Wednesday, during Forest School, we read The Colour Monster and collected natural materials to represent different colours and emotions.
As part of our Context for Diversity, we read Elmer the Elephant and talked about what makes each of us special. The children created beautiful drawings of their families inside their lollipop stick houses, and we looked at photos that parents kindly sent in. We discussed the similarities and differences between our families and celebrated what makes each one unique and special.
To finish off the week, we celebrated Fairtrade Day on Friday. The children dressed in Fairtrade colours and brought in generous Fairtrade donations. We attended a Fairtrade assembly and learnt about where chocolate and bananas come from. Back in class, the children enjoyed using playdough to create their very own Fairtrade bananas.
