September 23rd : Numeracy Homework

Numeracy Homework
All children are working hard to learn their multiplication tables. This week's homework is the four times table. The children have two weeks to learn this. They will participate in mental maths on finding the multiples and the product of numbers. They have now been introduced to square numbers, which will be important when they progress on to simple algebra. They have learnt that when you square a number you are asked to multiply that number by itself. We have focused on 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 squared this week in mental maths. In addition, the children have been learning about odd and even numbers. An odd number cannot be divided equally by two and an even number can. The rule is any number ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9 is odd and a number ending in 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 is an even number. We have focused on the column addition process. Once they are competent in the process, this skill can be applied to reasoning and problem-solving activities.
Thank you,
Mrs Houston
