This has been out Health and Fitness week. We have been learning about foods that help our bodies to work well. We made fruit smoothies, we played the Healthy Lunchbox game and on Thursday we all took part in our very first Sports Day! We all performed brilliantly and Mrs Riordan came and presented our winners' medals.
We have also been learning about the words for different temperatures. In the indoor water tray we played with ice hands and watched how the ice melted. In the outdoor water tray we washed the dolls' clothes in warm water and then pegged them on the washing line to dry - lots of science in Nursery this week. We also talked about how important it is to keep our bodies clean. In Religion we have been discussing what we like to do with our friends and how important our friends are to us.
We have had a week of ducks! We played "Lucky Ducks" where we had to find ducks with the same shapes underneath. We had to take turns and try and remember where our shapes were.
We cut out ducks and used collage materials to decorate them.
We have been looking at shapes and patterns.
We have a had a cookery week inspired by the our story of "The Little Red Hen". We have been using ingredients that come from a farm - wheat, butter, eggs, vegetables, cheese, milk and flour. We have been very busy!
In the woods, we sat around the log circle thinking about the lovely world God has made for us to look after. We made up a litany of thanks, with all of us saying thank you to God for something he has given us. We have been investigating magnets and celebrated a birthday.
This week, we have been planting. We have planted tomatoes, courgettes, potatoes and cucumbers - they are all in our greenhouse. We are going to water them and see how they grow and change. Mr McHugh taught us how to play "tag" and we have been using lots of prepositions - on, under, behind, in front, next to. We had lots of fun. In the woods on Friday we made dens and explored the log circle. We have been developing our scissor skills.
Our topic for this half term is "Old MacDonald and his farm".
The farmer's animals escaped last week and we had to go into the woods to find them. We are so sensible when we line up. We had to make sure we found the right number of each animal.
We set up a farm shop, selling produce from the farm. We used real money to pay for the items.
Thank you to the parents of the new children for completing the photograph permission forms.
We have been making friends with each other - it is good to have so many people to play and explore with.
We had fun with the parachute - we all know what the word under means!
When we came into school on Monday we found that there was a hairdressing salon in the classroom! We have been washing, brushing and styling hair. We have been investigating shapes and playing games on our interactive screen. Mr McHugh taught us how to do yoga!
We have been playing greengrocers. We set the shop up to sell lots of different vegetables. We weighed the vegetables to see which was the heaviest and which was the lightest. We then used the vegetables to make paint prints.
We have been learning about Baptism. We sorted symbols of Baptism and pretended that we were at a Baptism.
The signs of Autumn are all around us. We have been investigating what happens in Autumn. We have seen the leaves falling from the trees and explored which animals hibernate during the colder months. We made hedgehog bread, created Autumn patterns and finger painted Autumn trees. You'll also notice that we do like a nice hat in Nursery!
We have had another busy week. We have been exploring patterns. We have been using compare bears to make and continue patterns. The bears are different sizes and different colours, so we had a lot to think about! In art, we made rangoli patterns using scrunched up tissue paper. We made a big rangoli pattern when we went into the woods, using leaves and twigs.
We have been comparing objects and identifying the biggest and smallest. We ordered pictures of diva lamps according to size.
Thank you for completing the parental consent forms. I am now able to upload photographs of all the activities we have been undertaking each week.
Below, I have uploaded some of the activities from previous weeks.
