St Joseph's R.C. Primary School
Week beginning 04.05.26
This week in Nursery we have loved exploring the story of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” while learning all about healthy foods, growing and making healthy choices!
We continued to think about the story of Pentecost and explored the idea that the Holy Spirit is real, even though we cannot see Him, just like the wind! The children created beautiful kites with streamers and loved watching them fly outdoors. This sparked wonderful conversations about the wind, movement and how the Holy Spirit helps and lifts us up.
We have been incredibly engaged in all of our caterpillar-themed activities and have enjoyed retelling the story using colourful language, repeated phrases and lots of exciting props. We talked together about the different foods the caterpillar ate and discussed which foods help our bodies grow strong and healthy. Throughout the week, we explored colours, patterns and matching through a variety of activities inspired by butterflies and caterpillars. We carefully created repeating patterns, matched butterfly wings and used loose parts to design our own caterpillars, showing fantastic creativity and problem-solving skills.
Our healthy eating focus continued through discussions, sensory play and challenges where we fed the caterpillar healthy fruits and explored different food properties. The children showed growing confidence using new vocabulary to describe colours, foods and textures while making links to our own healthy choices.
In the woods this week we used our kites, developing confidence, resilience and teamwork while running, balancing and exploring together. We finished our week by celebrating Sir David Attenborough's birthday, learning a little bit about his work, making nature crowns and having mini caterpillar cakes (it was a birthday party after all!) In the afternoon, it was our friend Lottie's 4th birthday too, happy birthday Lottie!
We have shown fantastic communication, cooperation and independence while learning all about healthy foods, growth and caring for ourselves this week! Well done everyone!
