St Joseph's R.C. Primary School
Week beginning 27.04.26
Another fantastic week has passed in Nursery as we explored our new theme of looking after our teeth and keeping our smiles healthy!
This week, we revisited the story of Pentecost and continued exploring the Holy Spirit as our friend and helper. The children enjoyed using scarves and bubbles themselves to roleplay the Pentecost story.
We have been so excited to learn how to care for our teeth through a range of exciting, hands-on activities. Throughout the week, we discussed healthy habits, practised identifying foods that are good and bad for our teeth, and explored why brushing carefully is so important. The children particularly enjoyed cleaning “dirty teeth,” removing sticky “plaque,” and using different tools to investigate how we can keep our mouths healthy and clean. Some of our activities encouraged us to recognise numbers while cleaning specific teeth in different mouths, helping to develop our number knowledge and fine motor control. We also explored tricky challenges such as cleaning hard-to-reach teeth and flossing between teeth carefully without dropping the floss!
Outdoor learning was a highlight this week as the children used natural materials to create giant forest mouths. Using sticks, stones, pinecones and mud, the children worked collaboratively to build mouths, teeth and even cavities! This encouraged fantastic teamwork, creativity and problem-solving while developing confidence in our wooded environment.
At the end of the week, we also made healthy “apple smiles” while discussing which foods help keep our teeth strong and which foods can damage them. We also explored digital technology by taking photographs of one another’s smiles. We showed great care, patience and excitement while learning how to use the cameras responsibly.
In PE, we developed our throwing and aiming skills through fun ladybird-themed games. We worked hard to improve our accuracy when throwing at targets and showed fantastic listening and perseverance throughout the activities.
We are so proud of the children for their wonderful work this week. They have developed fantastic confidence while learning important healthy habits that will help them care for themselves every day!
