St Joseph's R.C. Primary School
Week beginning 03/11/25
In RE this week, we learnt about the Advent wreath and explored what the different coloured candles represent. The children enjoyed creating their own wreath crafts using feathers, green tissue paper, and glue to stick on the candles.
In maths this week, we continued our journey to develop subitising skills. We linked our learning to The Very Hungry Caterpillar story, counting the foods he ate throughout the week. The children also completed a subitising activity in their books using dice and adding spots to ladybirds.
In phonics this week, our sounds were h and b. We practised blending the sounds we had learnt to read simple words.
For literacy, we re-enacted The Very Hungry Caterpillar. One child was chosen to be the caterpillar in the middle of the circle, while the other children held the foods from the story. As the teacher read, the caterpillar was fed the food to bring the story to life.
In context this week, we learnt about the story of Guy Fawkes and Bonfire Night. The children re-enacted the story using a fort as the cellar, props, and music. They then created beautiful firework pictures using recycled toilet roll tubes and paint.
This week we introduced Dojo Jobs, which are tasks the children can complete during free choosing time to earn extra Dojos. Activities included practising handwriting and letter formation in our handwriting books, drawing a picture of themselves with Jesus, and practising using the iPads to explore Seesaw.
On Miss Wood’s Wood Wednesday, we filled up our bucket with ingredients for our mud kitchen.
